Why haven't you included any ___ ?

• Editorial Policy

This page is about what you will and will not find at "Tefl-magic.com". I know this is only a small web site but I am including a statement of this kind because hopefully Tefl-magic is going to continue growing and this page should give an idea of the way it's likely (or unlikely) to develop in the future. So I'm just going to quickly mention four little issues that this raises; making requests  for more material, what material types  I intend to include, the thorny political correctness  issue, and how to submit your own material.

This web site
is very different to a "book" which gets published once and then only reprinted and revised if it is very successful. In the future, I can both add and remove things whenever I want, but whether I decide to do so depends largely on you, the reader. If there are things that you like please use my contact page to e-mail and tell me so that I can add more items of a similar kind. Similarly, if you like a lot of the site but find one area particularly objectionable for any reason, write and say so. I will try to do something about it.

At
the moment, there are only certain kinds of material posted in the "materials area". This is partly because of my own teaching preferences; for example there are no "songs" or "jazz chants" because I, personally avoid using these in class. But there are also no pictures on the materials because I haven't yet figured out how to get my pen-and-ink drawings into a computer without totally ruining them. If you really would like to see them, write and tell me and then I'll try harder.

I know
many of you take the "political correctness" issue very seriously and so I've tried to keep your feelings in mind when editing the various pages in the "materials area". I hope you will understand that where I have failed, it is due to my lack of knowledge of this large subject and not a result of "wilful chauvenism" on my part. With this in mind, I have used the pronoun pairs "she / he" and "he / she" alternately to try not leave anybody feeling slighted. If this, or anything else in this site either offends you or, in your opinion, may cause offense to others, please write and tell me and I really will try and do something about it.

If
you are a creative teacher with materials of your own that you would like to place on the internet, but maybe haven't got the hang of web design yet, I would (in principle) be happy to include them with a suitable acknowledgement. You can either attach word-processed documents to an e-mail to one of my email addresses or post paper copies to my land address and provided that it is technically feasible, I will do my best to format them and post them on the site within a month (or so). If you do decide to send word-processed data, please bear in mind that I am using a "Windows-based" system and would require them either to be in a version of "Word" (95 / 97 / 2000 / XP), or in the more universal "Rich Text Format" (.rtf).
